What Impact is for

Most leadership challenges are not technical. They are human.

The hardest moments in leadership are rarely about strategy. They're about the difficult conversation you put off, the stakeholder you can't quite read, the team member whose silence you're misinterpreting, the client whose body language doesn't match their words, the conflict you'd rather route around.

Impact gives you a behaviourally grounded toolkit for those moments. You'll learn to read people and rooms with the precision that comes from decades of EmotionIntell behavioural-science work, and to communicate, navigate conflict and influence outcomes with intent. Not by becoming louder or more polished. By becoming sharper, more empathic and more honest.

After Impact, you'll be better able to:

  • Read what people are actually communicating, not just what they're saying
  • Hold difficult conversations without escalating or avoiding them
  • Deal with difficult people in a way that respects them and gets results
  • Influence outcomes without resorting to authority
  • Navigate group dynamics, hierarchy and stakeholder pressure with more clarity
Influence isn't about being more persuasive. It's about being more accurate.
Is this the right fit

Impact is built for leaders who want every interaction to count.

This is for you if…

  • You want to read people more accurately and with less projection
  • You'd rather face a difficult conversation than carry it for a month
  • You want to influence behaviour without leaning on title or authority
  • You're navigating complex stakeholder dynamics, internal politics or client relationships
  • You're an aspiring leader, executive, founder or client-facing professional and you know your career outcomes are decided in conversations

This may not be the right fit if…

  • You're looking for a sales scripting or persuasion-tactics course
  • You want a fixed playbook of phrases to use in tricky moments
  • You're not yet able to stay grounded under pressure (Resilience first may serve you better)

Impact is precise, behavioural and human. It is not about manipulation, persuasion tricks or scripts.

Curriculum

Four sessions. Four practical shifts. From observation to influence.

Each module is designed as a four-hour live session with deliberate space between sessions to apply the work. The result is real behavioural change, not theory you'll forget by Monday.

1

Reading behaviour accurately

Most communication breakdowns start with bad reading. Module 1 builds the behavioural-observation skill that lets you separate what's actually happening from what you've assumed.

  • Observation versus assumption: the most common leadership trap
  • Emotional signals, body language and tone, without becoming a mind-reader
  • Baseline behaviour and meaningful deviation
  • Recognising resistance, confusion, disengagement and quiet agreement
2

Understanding context and dynamics

Behaviour doesn't happen in a vacuum. Module 2 widens the lens from the individual to the system: hierarchy, group dynamics, hidden drivers and the difference between psychological safety and compliance.

  • Power, hierarchy and how influence actually flows
  • Group dynamics and the drivers people don't say out loud
  • Psychological safety versus compliance, and why most teams confuse them
  • Stakeholder mapping under organisational pressure
3

Difficult conversations and conflict

Difficult conversations rarely fail because the words were wrong. They fail because the timing, tone or framing missed the moment. Module 3 builds the practical skill of saying difficult things well.

  • Communicating when the room is tense or emotional
  • Tone, timing and framing as decision-making tools
  • How conflict escalates, and how to slow it without surrendering
  • De-escalation, resolution and dealing with difficult people
4

Influence and behavioural change

Real influence is the natural outcome of accurate reading and honest communication. Module 4 brings the toolkit together around feedback, motivation, accountability and lasting behavioural change.

  • Influence versus authority, and why authority alone runs out
  • Behavioural drivers: status, certainty and belonging
  • Feedback that actually leads to change
  • Motivation, accountability and the behavioural outcomes that matter

Noticing what is happening inside you. Developed in Resilience.

Quadrant 2

Communicating, navigating conflict and influencing with intent.

Outcomes

A sharper read on people. A clearer route to action.

By the end of Impact, participants are better able to understand behaviour in context, communicate without unnecessary escalation and influence outcomes more deliberately. You leave with four concrete frameworks you can use in any room.

Behavioural observation framework

A repeatable way of reading people that distinguishes signal from projection.

Stakeholder dynamics map

A practical lens for any room: who has what influence, what's driving them, where you can move things.

Difficult conversations model

A clear approach to saying hard things well, without escalating or avoiding.

Influence strategy framework

A way of thinking about influence that compounds over time, beyond any single interaction.

Two leaders in attentive conversation
Format

Built around practice, reflection and the conversations that already matter to you.

Impact runs as four live half-day sessions over four weeks. Between sessions, you take the work into the conversations, meetings and stakeholder situations you're already navigating, then bring real examples back into the room. The result is skill that lands in the moment, not theory you'll forget by Monday.

4 live half-day sessions

Each session runs 10am to 2:30pm on a Tuesday, kept to a small cohort.

One month of focused practice

Application between sessions is part of the programme, not an afterthought.

Optional 1-to-1 coaching

For leaders working through specific stakeholder, conflict or influence situations.

Who you'll learn with

Behavioural science taught by people who have lived it.

Impact is delivered by an EmotionIntell founder with deep expertise in behavioural analysis, communication and applied influence. The teaching draws on EmotionIntell's heritage in nonverbal behaviour, statement analysis and behaviour decoding, distilled into something practical and immediately useful in the conversations that matter.

Dr Cliff Lansley - Founder, EmotionIntell · PhD in Emotional Intelligence
Dr Cliff Lansley is the founder of EmotionIntell and one of the most experienced behavioural scientists working in emotional intelligence and credibility today. He holds a PhD in Emotional Intelligence, is trained in the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), and developed the Six Channel Analysis System (SCAnS) used to read behaviour across face, body, voice, verbal content, interactional style and psychophysiology. Co-creator of the e-Factor assessment, he has advised security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies worldwide and provided behavioural analysis for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Discovery. In the room, Cliff turns thirty years of research into tools you can use in your next difficult conversation.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Impact

Not always. If you can already stay grounded under pressure, you can come straight into Impact and get a lot from it. If pressure tends to pull you off-centre, doing Resilience first will make Impact land harder. Many people do both, in order, with the bundle.
No. Impact is about being more accurate. Persuasion built on inaccurate reading is short-term at best. Influence built on accurate reading and honest communication compounds over time.
In part. Module 1 includes practical behavioural reading, drawing on EmotionIntell's heritage in behavioural analysis. The aim is not to turn you into a lie detector. It is to make you a more accurate observer in real conversations.
Difficult conversations is one of the four modules. Impact is broader: it covers reading, dynamics, conflict and influence as a connected system. The aim is lasting change in how you operate, not a single skill drill.
All published cohorts run live online. Private cohorts for organisations can be delivered in person on request.
We try to keep cohorts together. If you have to miss one, we'll work with you to catch up before the next session, either through a recording (where available), a brief 1-to-1 with the facilitator or by joining the same module in the next series.
For organisations

Build a leadership team that lands what matters in every conversation.

If your senior leaders, sales team, client-facing professionals or whole leadership group would benefit from doing Impact together, we run private cohorts shaped around your context, your stakeholders and your real conversations. Outcomes are agreed up front so the programme creates change you can see in performance, not just feedback.
